Information For Musicians looking for a gig:

I give credit to Concerts on Bonnie Branch for some of the information below and I admittedly have co-opted it without the approval of Major League Baseball or the Commissioner.

If you are a musician looking for a venue, we may be interested in hosting you, so feel free to contact us. But before you do, please take note of the following:

- The chances of us actually hosting you within the next three years are between slim and none...and as my Mom says, it looks like Slim left town, Cowboy.  However, we do travel quite a bit and are always looking for good live music when we are out of town. Either that or write a number one song.  Just wanted to be honest.  If you have been nominated for a Grammy, Tony, ACM, CMA, or NSAI award, it will move you toward the top of the list.

- We focus our series on acoustic folk rock/folky pop/performing songwriters with a bit of country thrown in for good measure. We aren’t as roots oriented as some house concerts. And if you consider yourself a "blues" musician, sorry you’re out of luck. Memphis is the home of the blues so we hear world class blues all the time.

- We only host a show about six times a year, so flexibility in timing is a must. If we really like your music, we'll probably get to you, but maybe not this season or next or even the one after that or the one after that. So DO NOT contact us looking for a gig on such-and-such date.  We won’t even consider that unless you’ve been nominated for a Grammy.

- Our house holds about 40 people; the backyard is slightly larger and could hold as many as 100 if everyone showered that day.

- We will provide a small PA but the show needs to be mostly acoustic! We reserve the right to kill drummers and bury their bodies in the backyard.

- We will record the show for a podcast that we publish on iTunes. The artist will have free use of the resulting recording.

- I need to hear more of your music than some short clips; sending me either a CD or Press Kit is required. NO EXCEPTIONS! Live is much preferred if possible. I will NOT review your EPK or listen to your myspace/youtube page. Otherwise I’d never get away from the computer. Send me a message to get the mailing address. jimbo(at) memphishouseconcerts.com

-  The best way to get our attention is to attend the Folk Alliance Conference in February or attend the Kerrville Folk Fesstival.  We do almost all of our booking as a result of attending those two events.

- We will provide an area for you to sell your merch, so please bring some.

- We only host shows on Saturday evenings. Otherwise you will be playing for us and our dogs. Although, they really like music, they’re too cheap to pay.

- We am more than happy to provide food, beer and lodging for the musicians we book. Just let us know if you’re interested and aren’t allergic to dogs.

- Finally, if you’ve read this far, perhaps you’re serious and want to impress us with more than just a form letter sent out to a dozen venues at once. If you really want to impress us, put the words "Go Vols" in the subject line and that will get you looked at and listened to because we'll know you’ve taken the time to read through everything. You can also email us at jimbo(at)memphishouseconcerts.com. Again, I will NOT review your myspace page. A CD or Press Kit is required!!!

- and finally, the house gets one copy of each of your CDs...you know, for the kids.

With all that said, if you really, really think you fit the bill and don't mind waiting three years for a gig, please feel free to contact us. We’ve come across some excellent musicians looking for a place to play. So we are interested in hearing from musicians. If we're booked solid, your music is off-genre for us, or we just don’t think it will be a good fit with our series, I’ll be politely straight with you...even if you suck.

Kidding, I probably don’t have the heart to tell you that...unless I'm in a bad mood that day.
